Traveling With Dialysis
Have you thought about taking a vacation, attending a family reunion, or going on a business trip? Traveling while on dialysis is possible; it just takes some planning and coordination.
Many of our patients have traveled all around the United States and abroad. They come back with lots of exciting stories to share and many will start to plan their next trip as soon as they return!
It is never too early to make travel plans, so talk with your social worker and fill out a travel request form as many locations require a 30 day advance notice. If you like to be more spontaneous then you might want to consider alternative modalities such as Home Hemo dialysis or Peritoneal dialysis, so that you can take your equipment with you.
After submitting your travel form, your social workers will submit a referral on your behalf to the closest dialysis centers to the address provided, unless otherwise specified. Then, they will let you know what medical records are needed as every state and individual dialysis center has specific tests and lab work that are required before you are approved for dialysis treatments.
Why wait? Contact your social workers at (360) 479-5908 and let the planning begin!
